Mom always made this cake when we were growing up and still does. The hint of cinnamon makes it unique and it feeds a bunch.
Bring to a boil:
1 cup water
1 cup butter
1/4 cup cocoa
In a bowel mix:
2 cup flour
2 cup sugar
1 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup buttermilk
Combine and mix all together, pour into a greased and floured sheet cake pan
Bake @ 350 for about 20 to 25 min
While cake is baking, make icing
Icing
Bring to boil
1/3 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup butter (Mom always uses Blue Bonnet)
2 tsp vanilla
Beat in 1 box powdered sugar
1/4 cup cocoa
Stir in 2 cups pecan pieces
Mom pokes holes in cake and ices while hot
